Who are you, and what is your connection to ergonomics?
I am Peyman Yasari, a PhD researcher at the ISyE department at Ghent University (UGent), working on the integration of ergonomic and cognitive load considerations into task allocation and scheduling. My research is conducted within the Flanders Make project WELLFICIENCY_SBO. In this project, researchers from partner universities and from Flanders Make assess and quantify the ergonomic and cognitive demands of tasks and provide these as input data. Based on these inputs, we develop scheduling solutions that incorporate these task-specific scores, ensuring that operators’ well-being is taken into account while maintaining productivity as a key performance indicator for industry partners.
What will your session at the Ergonomics Congress be about?
My session will focus on a practical decision-support tool developed for a real-life use case at one of the User Group members of the WELLFICIENCY_SBO project, integrating ergonomics using the Key Indicator Methods (KIM). The tool takes into account the ergonomic capacity of operators and calculates the cumulative ergonomic load assigned to each operator over a working day. Its objective is to assign tasks to the most suitable (i.e., most skilled) operators while ensuring that their individual ergonomic capacity limits are respected. In this way, the tool aims to prevent overload and contribute to healthier and more sustainable work practices.
What do you personally expect from the Congress?
I look forward to receiving feedback from both ergonomics experts and industry practitioners. In particular, I am interested in assessing the validity of the tool from an ergonomic perspective, as well as understanding its practical relevance and potential adoption in industrial settings. More broadly, I am keen to explore how such tools can help companies maintain productivity while reducing the risk of work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WRMSDs) through ergonomics-aware task allocation.
